The Chiropractic Joint
Along with her team of four individuals, for this project Mikayla met with a client to discuss the renovation and redesigning process for their chiropractic office. Together, the group created a mood board, took measurements of the space, created a floor plan in AutoCad, and made renderings using SketchUp, in order to provide the clients with an option for changes to the office. Mikayla's role in this project was designing the group logo and making the majority of the renderings in SketchUp.

Atmospheric Research Observatory
Along with her team of four individuals, for this project Mikayla measured the inside of the observatory located on the Northern Arizona University campus. The goal was to not only document the building as it stands today, but to gather historical information about the building. Mikayla and her partners took the information they gathered (measurements, and historical information) and created a formal construction document set, complete with floorplans, elevations, ceiling plans, and details.
INTERIOR DESIGN PORTFOLIO
This work includes some of the projects and artwork completed by Mikayla Roux throughout her time as an Interior Design student at Northern Arizona University from 2020 to 2021.
For this project, Mikayla was expected to design a fire and water feature vestibule for a soon to be constructed firehouse museum. These kinds of features are designed to keep a space kinetic, invite controlled elements into the building, and provide something that gives emphasis for what’s to come. Something to make the experience exciting and awe-inspiring. Procreate (on the iPad) and Adobe Photoshop were used to render this perspective before being placed into the AutoCad titleblock.

Fire & Water Vestibule Rendering
Mikayla's inspiration for this project was the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City. She visited this memorial a few years ago and, during her visit, was amazed to see that some aspects of the original World Trade Center was preserved and incorporated into the building. With this in mind, it was her goal to design a space that honored the fallen firefighters of 9/11. A space that showed a bit of rustic character of the past (a nod of honor and remembrance to the lives that were lost), mixed with some more modern aspects (looking to the future of America, and how our nation continues to build itself after the attack).
The vestibule itself is comprised of two firefighter poles that are lit and aflame. This example of line and direction draws viewers attention upwards. While the flames are the main focal point, they are contrasted with a wall of water surrounding them, as well as a pool of water at the base. The texture of the floor changes as individuals near the base of the vestibule.

Social Responsibility in Design Research
Here, Mikayla and a classmate were expected to walk around Northern Arizona University and evaluate the many buildings and spaces. They had to find spaces that reflected social responsibility. These include examples of universal design, sensory experience in a space, ergonomic design (employs the use of anthropometrics), accessible design solution, territoriality, proxemics, personalization, cultural inclusion, biophilic design, and a space that is used for special user groups. Mikayla and her partner created a 12-page digital booklet to document their findings.

Riordan Mansion Field Study Sketches
Mikayla and her classmates went to the Riordan Mansion in Flagstaff, AZ to do a field study. It was here that they exercised their sketching and note taking abilities, as they observed and learned about the history of this particular space and architecture. Students were then given the opportunity to combine their findings into one document, using Adobe Illustrator.

La Peer Boutique Hotel 3D Model & Renderings
In this class, Mikayla was expected to design and hand paint small boutique hotel lobby. Here, students were expected to apply their knowledge of space planning and color theory to their designs, and then construct a model with these renderings. This class was taken in spring 2021, and Mikayla was learning remotely via Zoom.
